Pros

Job security, huge balance sheet, private company able to focus on the long-term

Cons

Far too many employees that would likely not cut it at other companies due to underperformance remain employed and in some cases in positions with significant responsibility, often stagnating earnings in business units particularly the energy platform which has lost many key senior traders in the past 2 years which had been large contributors to earnings over the past decade.

Pros

exposure to large scale manufacturing, food safety, and quality control work in labs. Easy to get along with technicians that run the plant, the engineers aren't as sociable though. Solid experience in chemistry and food and beverage industry. Many jobs available in many business units. Resources to learn about other manufacturing plants in the facility.

Cons

Eddyville, IA is in out in the country. Des Moines is the closest city (1 hour away). Not easy to get promoted unless you plan to live your life at work and stay here in the area. Job can get repetative. Pay raises do not really happen. No paid overtime. Shift schedule including nights.

Pros

Any of the businesses that are not associated with Tartan are still great places to work. The entrepenurial spirit of growing businesse and working with customers are tough to find anywhere else. If in the right business, the potential for career growth is significant.

Cons

Stay as far awary as possible from the Tartan initiative. The consultants brought in to implement SAP (primarily Accenture) have poisoned the culture to the point where it's unrecognizable from the Cargill that used to be a great place to work.
