Pros

Funeral Home and Cemetery Employees and managers are really nice and understanding.

Cons

Managers at the corporate office don’t want their employees to grow. They do not set a clear pathway for advancement. They ask you to be engaged but they have “cliques” and they admit to that. If you are ambitious and want to be on a growth and development path, this place is not for you. They all internally gossip about one another and have very high turn over. Although, the CEO has a great vision and shows care, the leaders there are not helping the company grow. They don’t practice zero tolerance for retaliation. They preach it but fire people when they want- claiming, it’s at will employment. Zero internal communication. If you bring up a problem that should be addressed, they just put a bandaid on it and sweep it under the rug.

Pros

Little or no commute; occasional overtime.

Cons

Pay is far below baseline standard, Commission schedule changes all the time, especially in the case of rewrites. In many cases, counselors are charged back and commissions are taken from them or greatly reduced. Always a new reason from a specific individual at home office as to why a commission is reduced or not paid. It is a revolving door with staff there. Of late, the management team at one of the locations is the most corrupt I have ever seen. They love to encourage high sales volume and do not deliver on promises. They have buried individuals in the wrong plots on many occasions, failed to order memorial markers or had gross misspellings, failed to post payments properly. The Office Manager is highly unprofessional and repeatedly talks about clients and colleagues in a negative fashion.

Pros

The company currently allows for a good amount of autonomy in our day-to-day decision making.

Cons

The new CEO (Carlos) has demoted all managing partners by one level in the company hierarchy, reduced potential incentive bonuses by about 15%, and took away the awards trip for all the managing partners who were promised it and who earned it. The new leadership does not value the efforts of the managing partners like the founder Mel Payne did. I'm sure it will get worse over the years under his leadership.
