Pros

Excellent benefits. Good stepping stone and launch pad for younger professionals. Ability to experience how a spin-off functions when led primarily by consultants without management expertise or leadership ability.

Cons

Critical mass of underpaid women in the editorial ranks. Extremely political atmosphere where women who do a lot of male leaders' work are given titles and authority that they have neither earned or merit. Lots of double talk from top management.

Pros

Cengage has an amazing HR department. They are responsive and really try and help employees even in difficult situations. The benefits are highly competitive with similar organizations and they do an excellent job with dealing with highly distributed teams and remote employees.

Cons

Goals, strategies, and results are very poorly communicated. Yearly financial objectives seem to be based more on wishful thinking than anything in reality. Even when objectives are met, bonuses and incentives are small and no in line with the performance indicators they are stated to be upon. I have also personally witnessed multiple high-level managements decisions which were made for either political or personal gain and resulted in disastrous consequences for the departments involved and the financial bottom line.

Pros

The people--overall everyone is nice, just overworked.

Cons

Lack of communication from management, product decisions and strategies are done too late, not enough digital resources and technology available for staff and customers, special treatment offered to upper management, not enough benefits, too much money spent on events rather than on employee salaries--it's like every department works in a vacuum and we don't know what's going on.
