      Okay most of the time; not so great lately

      Pros

      The people who work at Cengage are the best part of the job. The company itself seems interested in promoting competent individuals who will push the bottom line. There's a decent balance between work and personal life.

      Cons

      Morale and motivation are at an all-time low. Most individuals seem confused by the "big picture" and even though Senior Management likes to think they're keeping the employees in the loop, they really just seem to ostracize them. Products are rushed to the market and customer focus isn't always a top priority.

      Pros

      Very flexible work schedule. Very autonomous work life--not micromanaged at all.

      Cons

      This used to be a great company but has changed dramatically since being acquired. Company is unstable since going public--very good talent has left the company. Most employees are concerned for the future. Salaries are low in comparison to other companies within the publishing industry. Sometimes management is too "hands off"--often you would like more support/ help in the field.

      Pros

      Casual work environment, dedication to improve textbook content and make ancillaries accessible to students and good 401K plan and benefits.

      Cons

      Salaries are significantly lower than competitors which creates low morale. Editorial needs to understand technology more, they seem to be stuck in the "old school" way of thinking and can't seem to understand that technology is rapidly changing.
