Excellent workforce, floundering senior management

Pros

Gale has one of the very best workforces around. Intelligent, passionate, engaged employees who believe in the company's mission (when the mission holds still for a few minutes). People work hard and management up to the middle management area are generally tuned into their employees and supportive. Great co-workers.

Cons

Senior management is lost. They don't want to face the reality of the information/publishing business, so keep getting caught up in the latest "cool" management trend instead of working on the real issues. The amount of time wasted on new processes (to create the same old products that don't break the mold) is unconscionable. The company's philosophy (like so many floundering companies'): When in doubt, reorg. Shameful.

Pros

Good and regular hours, pleasant people, generally relaxed pace, opportunity to travel, 'safe' job which has lower rate of retrenchment as compared to other industries

Cons

Low pay, low or non-existent bonus, poor bonus and promotions structure which doesn't provide incentives to lower-ranking employees, conservative policies especially when it comes to technology

There is a pretty good work/life balance. Most people are nice and respectful. The building is really nice and well taken care of.

Cons

Not a lot of diversity within the workplace. Some jobs are looked down upon or looked as being not successful or worthy enough. You're not successful if you're not in such and such position thought process.
