Worse management in my career.

Pros

Working with the FOTEP women was rewarding.

Cons

The manager was there 4-5 hours a day. Was aloof, full of herself and not engaged in the day to day operation in the Fair Oaks location. She was dismissive, not at all supportive of the negative work environment. She would only speak with you if there was a problem, affecting her, but not because she was a concerned manager. Since she was not present a great deal of the time, she managed by crisis. This manager put on a happy face when the management from the bay area came, but when they left, she usually left and we were left to fend for ourselves.

Pros

Many people who work here are in recovery and care a TON about the clients. The alumni network is all over Marin and even Sonoma county and it is a great place to make connections

Cons

They are always understaffed, the staff that are here are not trained and don't know how to do the huge amount that is expected of them, the benefits are terrible (vacation, time off, etc) and both of the managers I have worked with are sexist and discredit female employees and clients often

Pros

It was a great experience working in a California prison! Got to help many people! Good benefits.

Cons

Learning what and how to do things is challenging because no guidance is given for weeks - even when you ask! Then you get reprimanded for not knowing! You're on your own. They're Lacking a sense of teamwork(starting with the supervisors) Unfortunately, supervisors only give their time and attention to a select few. It can also be challenging because the rules change day to day - and often only one person is given this information! When something changes; such as a last minute meeting, hopefully that person lets you know! (If they don't it can be embarrassing). Short staffed. You take on extra work, then your own work piles up because there is NO O/T - and you are expected to do your work somehow, even though it's NOT possible if you are also covering someone else! Working very hard will not get you recognized, will not get you promoted, and won't even get you a "thank you."
