      The downsides of a tech job without the upsides

      Pros

      Not many upsides… The PTO allowance is not as bad as some other local companies. Not impressive though, just okay.

      Cons

      Poor internal communication, poor process documentation, and poor actual processes. Lack of any strategy. The typical downsides of being part of a big corporation, but without the typically better benefits that come with it. Frequent layoffs. Benefits, work-life balance, and non-salary benefits (bonus, stock) have actively been gotten worse over the last 2 years, even for existing employees. The target annual raise, given to those with average to above average performance reviews, is always below inflation rates.

      • Low barrier to entry • Work is not too hard • Great for students and recent graduates • Well accommodating for those with limited English

      Cons

      • Constant layoffs, mass hiring, opening/closing locations • Many associates are aggressive and constantly worried about losing their jobs • No long-term goals. Senior management makes decisions based on short-term situations • Dishonestly throughout the hiring process. The recruiters promise quick contract-to-permanent, just to get hired and learn that Cepheid doesn’t offer it • Lack of diversity. Almost everyone is either Filipino or Vietmeanse • Too much favoritism • No career growth opportunities • Lots of gossiping
