Pros

Salaries are very solid and the company does interesting work across multiple areas

Cons

Pretty bummed to have to write this review. I was excited when I joined on based on the team I was assigned to and the work we were doing. My project was on an initial 6 month contract with the opportunity to extend. This didn't worry me too much as I planned to do some networking after the holiday season and was told that if the contract wasn't extended, the company would look to place me on a new team. The on-boarding process was very rocky. It took a lot of time to get my company laptop and to get all of the technical things set up correctly. It also became clear very quickly that the team for this project was thrown together in a hurry. The project manager had only been there two weeks longer than me. The team produced solid work but it never felt like any real team chemistry was established. Then, a week before Christmas, I'm told that between our contracting partner and the organization we are working for, people are stepping away and creating unexpected gaps that need to be filled. I was told that I am being taken off the team to make funding room for someone with the experience needed to fill those gaps. I was then given less than two weeks to find a new team to join or I would be officially terminated. I was told this was not performance related and all of the people I reported to said they would be happy to be a reference for me. I asked why I couldn't receive some leeway since we were right at the holiday season and there was sure to be plenty of new positions/projects starting in the new year. The only response I got was that the company could not afford to pay me for that much downtime. The company could not afford to pay me for an extra 2-3 weeks, but their most recent publicized profits (not revenue) were $147 million. Go figure. This time-frame covered the week before and after Christmas. Many people were out of office, there were few postings on our career site, and really, nobody is doing anything this time of year. During the whole process, I felt incredibly alone. The person who gave me this news did not help at all. I only heard from them when they asked to confirm where HR should send the box to return my equipment and how to enter correctly enter hours for time off I requested prior to being given the news. I also reached out to the person who recruited me for this position and who told me to reach out if I ever needed help with anything. I reached out once a day over text, email, and phone calls. He responded once that he would get back to me and never did. Even the members of my team were not supportive. My project manager just told me "not to take it personally" and that I should be sure to finish up the work I had remaining as it would "go a long way". They set up a call at the end of the day to go over the last things I worked on and to "say a proper goodbye". A few hours before the meeting, they cancelled this meeting and asked me to send an email summarizing what I worked on. They would call me if they needed me. Overall, I felt very disposable.

Pros

*Company 401k match *Yearly bonus & raise *Fairly decent at promoting within *Holidays off, almost 99% no weekend work (unless you personally have a deadline) *% of Revenue goes towards helping CN citizens *Laid back atmosphere, usually Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner served *No lay-offs ever

Cons

*Strict 8-5 *No hybrid schedule or WFH opportunities, unless you live out of state or over an hour away, which is not fair for other employees who REALLY want these things! *No Work/Life balance *No "back-up" workers if you miss work *President, Steven Bilby, doesn't seem to care if employees busted it for an entire year during the covid pandemic working from home for a year. Only to be demanded to work in office/on location with no budge in a hybrid schedule or even a return to WFH (work from home) although employees proved they are trustworthy and had better financial numbers than the previous year.
