Pros

Accounting is one of the most stable career paths, with demand across all industries - every company needs financial oversight. • Experienced professionals, especially those with CPA/CMA credentials or specialized systems expertise, command competitive salaries (often reaching or exceeding $150K in metro markets). • The field offers steady career progression - from Senior Accountant → Accounting Manager → Controller → Director/VP of Finance.

Cons

Month-end and year-end closings often require long hours and weekend work. • Deadlines are rigid - filings, audits, and financial reporting must be delivered on time, which can create burnout. • During peak periods (quarter close, tax season), workloads can double or triple temporarily.

Everyone loves Chewy...

Pros

As the headline says, Everyone loves Chewy, so it will likely look really good on a resume. You get to make exceptions and help people out, and you're encouraged to. Which makes you feel better about your job at the end of the day. Chewy is very customer-focused which is what a consumer wants. They hire people from all types of backgrounds. Different races, cultures, different interests, and values, and also people who have made some mistakes in the past. They're very accepting.

Cons

YOU ARE DISPOSABLE/DONT PAY ENOUGH It's a good thing that they're so customer-focused, but employees are disposable. They let you know this at every turn, and once you get past making 20 dollars an hour, it feels like they try to push you out. But they dont want to do the firing, or the laying off. They want you to get so fed up with not ever being good enough, that you quit. And they dont pay you anything, they pay you after 4 years what everyone else is making to start with. Life is very hard to afford. INCOMPETENT/UNDERQUALIFIED PAYROLL/HR DEPT Their payroll department makes constant mistakes. Twice so far, I have been over paid, and I hardly got an explanation for it. Just a random notice in my workday account (no email notification) when In did deep into my profile, and go into the compensation folder, that someone randomly decided to change your income. Once is a mistake, the second time though feels deliberate. Still can't figure out what that was about because HR doesnt give you or your issues the time of day. STRICT SCHEDULE ADHERENCE Lets say one day you wake up and you're only human- you aren't perfect. And you maybe miss your alarm, so you dont show up on time for an over time shift or a two hour shift trade. sounds like no big deal right? Think again, they wont care that you're human and made a mistake once the entire year. Your ability to choose a different schedule when the next shift bid comes around is taken as punishment, despite the fact that you might absolutely need the change for college, or your kids. That wont matter. That one mistake you made 5 months ago, has you burnt. You also wont be able to apply for other internal jobs in other departments. Your privilege entirely to move forward and better yourself gets taken from you as punishment for one time that you messed up, which doesn't align with their "Nobody is perfect, and thats okay, there's always opportunity to be a better you" mindset that they push. FAKE CULTURE They have this 'everyone is included' culture and 'mistakes are just opportunities' and we sit around on zoom and have a little cumbaya session together. But the truth is, their culture is fake, and it feels fake. Chewy is a place where the nerds get to take revenge on the cool kids who they never were able to sit with in high school. If you're not a total nerd who watches anime, and spends your time only reading fantasy novels, you're not cool and they'll go out of their way to ignore you. Any time you call another department for help, they either don't want to help you and find every reason not to, or they go on some power trip and deliver a lecture because they're hiding in their make-shift office at home, and know they'll never have to be face to face with you. POOR MANAGEMENT Your team manager wont hold themselves accountable at all. At Chewy, you are responsible for the managers scores, not them. Which i've never heard of in any setting anywhere else, where a leader was not responsible for their team. The peasants are the leaders in actuality, while the team manager gets to pretend they are. They are glorified customer service representatives, who think they got a seat at the big kids table, but in reality they just got the best seat at the kiddie table, and real management looks down on them still.
