      Great product, poor management

      Pros

      Innovative product with rich feature set and high reliability.

      Cons

      Poor management. Politics not productivity determine employment status, bonus and raises. Constant demand to work weekends for show, not need.

      Pros

      Ciena has a very flexible work environment, where people are usually free to work from home as much as they like. Colleagues are friendly and suportive.

      Cons

      Ciena is constantly in cost-cutting mode. It seems there are layoffs every six-months.

      Lots of Great Qualities But....

      Pros

      The people culture is amazing. I had a lot of coworkers as friends at Ciena and felt supported and valued by most of my leaders. Great benefits, especially the standards like healthcare but the ESPP was a great program. Overall, Ciena was a really fun place to work.

      Cons

      The compensation in my field was drastically below market. I left for a big increase and now two years later, I am making double my starting salary. Also, there was a bizarre bullying incident within a team and the action taken was not very swift and left a lot to be desired (no terminations and leadership somehow went unscathed, despite their early and ongoing awareness of the issue).
