Pros

Good job to have in HS and college, after that you need to be on your way to upper management for it to be worth it at all.

Cons

All management is constantly willing to throw the lower management and floor staff under the bus to make themselves look or feel better. Everyone is willing to shift blame downstream. Also they don't pay much until you become a SAM.

Pros

This job is a solid first job. It really helps people who may be intervertred to learn how to communicate professionally with customers, and learn basic job skills. This includes: Point of sale usage, cash handling techniques, safe food service, time management, building co-worker relationships, team work, basic customer satisfaction training, and many more skills that possible future employers will want their employees to have. There is a free movie policy, but how many seats and to what movie varies greatly from location to location. The staff at my location currently is composed of a diverse, youthful staff. There is a lot of ups and downs with the holiday seasons, which makes for great stories later. Management seems conscious that we're all under-paid for what we have to deal with, and will try to accommodate your special needs. Very fair discipline system. It's not a surprise when you get in trouble.

Cons

Management is stretched very thin because we're a smaller theater location. Employees often times get the brunt of an angry customers rage. Employees often times have to deal with drunk/intoxicated customers. Customers are often rude. We're also expected to up-sell for occasional $25 dollar gift cards. The numbers get skwed because some workers just get more shifts overall. You need to work weekends, no if's, and's, or but's. We also get really abused equipment to use, which rarely gets replaced. Our popper is more than 25 years old, and the butter pump is manually pumped/ falls apart with hundreds of people hollering orders. Management also really on senior employees to lead new employees. Often times, it's senior employees that end up training all new members. The company is also intolerant of pre-existing relationships between staff members to the point where you will be denied promotions if there is a known relationship with another employee. keep it a secret! There is a pay cap. Employees are usually at 8.75-9.0 per hours. Raises are possible every 6 months, but you need to work to the bone to get even 25 cents more per hour.
