Not the best company to work for, not the worst

Pros

CityVet is a growing company with a lot of room to advance, and the investor group that has taken over is really working hard to improve employees' experiences. Some locations are positive environments with a lot of good people working for them. Some of the doctors are really good doctors/people.

Cons

There are multiple powerful people in the company that often block advancement for some who deserve it and push advancement for others who are undeserving. If you get in good with the powerful people of CityVet, you've got it made; if not, you'll either be passed over, run over, or pushed out. It's actually sad that a lot of really good employees (and great people) have been run off. They preach that they are client-centric but a lot of the doctors and higher ups are money-centric and the bottom line is what matters most to them.

Pros

I learned quite a bit about merchandise, preventatives, and pet foods, as "lunch and learns" were a regular occurrence. Also, I enjoyed the opportunity to assist with kennel duties and bathing in order to earn holiday pay and extra hours when I wanted them.

Cons

To be fair, perhaps it was the particular women with whom I worked, however, management did little to nothing about the issues; if I did not willingly stay an extra 30 minutes to 2 hours, my co workers resented me and complained about me. I believe it was one of the most uncomfortable, unhealthy work environments I have ever experienced. Don't get me wrong, I am more than willing, and actually happy, to stay late and work long hours when necessary and as needed, but every night? To get all the cans facing forward and windows cleaned, ie, tasks we could complete if we simply arrived a half an hour early the next day? Like I said, once a week, ok that's to be expected, but it was every night.
