Pros

1. Large GC with opportunity to work on exciting projects

Cons

1. Pay is grossly low compared to industry standard. 2. The only way to actually be paid what is considered standard is to leave Clark Construction for another GC and come back after a while and use your pay from the other GC as leverage ( I have seen this happen multiple times) 3. There is a lack of willingness to learn from some of the older people in management, basic computer skills are POOR 4. Accountability is almost non-existent. You can run a project into the ground and be behind schedule and lose money, but as long as you are likeable they will continue to give you your annual raise (which is also below industry standard.)

Pros

They give plenty of learning/growth opportunities, even to those just beginning their career. The internal support network is amazing. They also provide job security. If you do your job and are always open to learn and grow, you can make a life long career here. I've never seen them layoff anyone (throughout pandemic and historically) and they always rotate and place personnel on different jobs in a way that works for everyone. Lots of trainings and community service opportunities. Good culture among employees. Lots of events, happy hours, etc.

Cons

Toxic HR environment. I've seen people get "random" drug tests after vacations or when maybe someone isn't doing the best at their job, but not bad enough to be fired. Terrible work life balance. When I say this, I mean worse than the construction industry average. They will work you into the ground here and ignore feedback about it. Below industry average for pay, benefits, bonuses, etc. Now that it's less taboo to talk salary, I have heard from several college peers, ex coworkers, etc. For how large of a company Clark is, their compensation is sad compared to what other companies can offer. Especially for operating in areas with some of the highest costs of living. Large disconnect between entry level and upper management. This is probably typical, but upper management often only hears what they want to hear.

Pros

Stable and established backlog of projects, good healthcare and competitive 401k benefits, neat project history and clients. Messaging provides good sense of pride in your work.

Cons

Very traditional, "good ol boys" type of company. Long hours with no recognition or overtime pay. The workload can be unsustainable and little support or training is provided. Vacations, holidays, life events and family are second to this job. Burnout is guaranteed and you are made to feel bad for using your standard PTO and sick time. Very dismal outlook for potential growth or opportunities, especially for minorities. Promotions are standardized and not based on performance or grit, but conformance. Many difficult senior leaders to work with, basic respect for junior employees is nonexistent. There is mixed messaging about how Clark sells themselves that do not match how employees are treated. The marketing proposal process needs much improvement.
