Pros

I don't know where to begin when comes to a list of pro's for Clean Water Action. What I can honestly say is that in my past two years and four months with the group, I've had the privilege to meet the some of the most dedicated, intelligent, and sincere people. I wouldn't trade this job for anything else. I get payed a living wage to walk around outside and activate community members who would otherwise have been left in the dark about important local issues and campaigns. I receive payed sick and vacation days, healthcare, etc. and have access to a 401k plan. My schedule is flexible (In that I have control over which days I work.) There is a special caliber of person who do this work. For those curious about it, call. I'm glad I did.

Cons

This work isn't for someone who wants a desk job.

Pros

Benefits are great, including paid training and paid time off. Staff is very supportive, and you get to work outside! Positions of leadership (with pay increase) awarded on merit, not seniority. Transparency and accountability are valued highly. Personally rewarding work.

Cons

You don't accrue benefits like sick and vacation days unless you work more than half-time. Working outside in rough weather can be challenging, as well.

Pros

They will hire almost anyone. If you are liberal and political the work environment is great. Everyone is really friendly and supportive. If you like talking to people about the environment and can handle asking people for money its a good summer gig. You will learn a lot about advocacy and current environmental legislation.

Cons

It is not an easy or stress free job. You have a quota to meet and while it is attainable, if you consistently miss quota they will have to let you go. The pay and hiring process are very structured. Also the pay schedule is kind of confusing depending on when you start. You may not get the first pay check for 3 weeks because it is a bi-weekly pay schedule. The work-life balance is hard because you work 2pm-10-pm and don't have much opportunity to see friends and family during the week. It is also somewhat physically strenuous work, walking for 4 hours in all weather conditions.
