Pros

They have a strong reputation and they know it.

Cons

If you are a nurse applying to the Cleveland Clinic, BEWARE! This is a doctor hospital and that's all they seem to care about! They make all their new nurse hires take an online assessment called PBDS. The test requires nurses to make a MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS! I am all about educating and empowering nurses, but this organization uses intimidation to deflate the confidence of its new nurse hires!! They will make you go through an Immersion Program and treat you like a kindergartener as they teach you their "dot method" for diagnosing patients' problems!! I have never been in a more demeaning and punitive environment!! THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT AN ORGANIZATION THAT TREATS IT'S NURSES WELL!! What a shame too, because as an experienced nurse I know the value of nursing care in patients' outcomes!!

Pros

If you work on main campus is a nurse you will see and learn so much, it’s a great resume builder The educational opportunities offered for nurses can be good when available and your manager allows you to take the courses

Cons

Not enough staff, meaning nurses, EVS, phlebotomy, EKG techs, aides, and secretaries, so PTO is denied, and you will always work short with management in the numbers, and be working four roles instead of one, and May get sent to help out other hospitals with no orientation Not enough supplies, and not just PPE but literally everything is out- sani wipes, port access kits, commodes, etc Constantly working short staffed even on fully staffed floors because other units are so short staffed you float to keep them barely functioning at 1:6 ratio for nurses There are bugs and mice in the hospital all over the place Pay for parking and no reimbursement on using public transit The benefits were probably great in the 90s but now are laughable- $250 copay for the ED, scheduling a primary care appointment 6 months in advance, no real tangible discounts

Pros

- Cost effective health care - Top notch health care - Amazing services offered - Great colleagues - Room for advancement if your manager allows it If youre lucky enough to get a good manager, you could be happy here.

Cons

Overall cons have to do with poor management which can vary in each department. Each department is their own entity, and management runs it how they want. Cons and ratings are based on the aforementioned: - Departments are not cohesive - Guidelines in employee handbook, but everything is management discretion---can circumvent all rules - Bosses not leaders in top roles---do not want others to succeed, move up or move on as impacts them - Ultimatley no room for growth based on previous bullet - Favoritism---Different rules for different employees - Other duties as assigned means doing several FT jobs, most unrelated to role and for no additional pay - Management creates hostile work environment, pitting employees against one another - Management is so far removed from the real.world and disconnected from employees. - Do not value prior experience within other companies - Low pay for experience brought to the table and the job you will actually be doing. - All about seniority not skills - Same title is extremely different within department and throughout company - If not salaried you will be treated like a child---told hourly employees cannot be trusted - If you are good at what you do they will take advantage of you---take on workload of others at higher pay grade and be reprimanded of their work is not done---ultimately falls on you. - Promised the world to keep you working hard, but do not deliver anything but excuses for not following through - APR is a joke. Do not use 360 feedback and cannot provide feedback re: management, only goes "top down", minimal increase for excellent reviews, no promotion - Fear repercussions if you speak out - Patients first is their motto at any cost to the subordinates. I came into an office where employees were crying daily---all ages, all races, all walks of life. All cannot be wrong. The Clinic does so much for the community and patients, but treats employees like they are lesser than.
