Pros

Good university to attend if you are interested in pursuing a future in Clinical Chemistry. Has a variety of faculty members doing all different kinds of research from organic synthesis to many different types of clinical research and testing. As a Teacher Assistant, you teach at least 2 laboratories each week throughout each semester and are required to teach 1 session over the summer. The university will cover the cost of the 9 credit hours of course work/research required for each semester as a graduate student. Each credit hour is about 450$ so this adds up to about 4000$ of financial aid a semester. In addition, a stipend is given to graduate students who are also TA's. The living stipend is about 21,000 a year after tax.

Cons

You have to pay for healthcare out of pocket - will cost you about 1800$/year if you are single, healthy individual. Higher level TA assignments generally require more time than others (ex. organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, instrumental analysis plus a few others). Only compensated for 20 hours a week even though some assignments will require much more time than this. More so, the university could use some upgrades on analytical instruments as to some of them are more than 15 to 20 years old.
