Pros

I love most of the people at Cloudera. You will never find more helpful folks who are willing to go above and beyond to help you. I also work on an awesome team. I hope to find another team that is just as amazing! The people in my office are top-notch and also people who I consider as friends!! If this was LCLDR, instead of the new Cloudera, I would rate this company 4.5 stars.

Cons

Now for the negatives. I worked under a manager who didn't show any interest in my career development or what I was doing. The manager LITERALLY DIDN'T care! It was extremely disappointing. The morale within the company is extremely low because of many reasons. The turnover rate is also extremely high and you will literally see a talented individual exiting this company almost every day. Trust me, there are many more smart individuals who are planning to leave. This is really unfortunate because of the potential of the company! After the merger, the LCLDR culture has absolutely deteriorated. Cloudera wants to pretend that this merger is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it has been a disaster. The company should have NEVER merged. Again, it is truly sad to see. Also, the leader of HR tends to make jokes out of serious questions/situations. For someone in HR, she is extremely condescending. Cloudera hires AEs who only care about their commissions and doesn't have the slightest knowledge of what goes on in the backend. Have career development opportunities for everyone at Cloudera. The lack of growth opportunities in many areas within this company is just pitiful. The only reason I am giving Cloudera any stars is because of the amazing people that work there. If it wasn't for the people, it would get half a star in my book.

Pros

Started with a great culture, great pay, flexible hours, lots of efforts to help employees work better together

Cons

"Grow with Cloudera" is not a reality, management is very unprofessional and unresponsive and do not listen to new ideas, product content is watered down by brand team, engineering team receives conflicting direction from managers, business decisions are made on unreliable data, sales is not focused, partner programs have become too demanding on vendors. Internal promotions are based on politics

Pros

Whatever the careers website lists as pros

Cons

Let’s talk attrition. Anyone who joins now will not be surrounded by top talent. For starters, >1/2 of the people on the careers page video don’t even work here anymore. Many accomplished longtime employees have departed in the last 6 months. Good for them. They are presumably getting huge TC increases and actual appreciation for their work. Many (not all) of the remaining longtime managers/directors stay because no other company will offer the same title and comp that Cloudera is giving them. Any leftover top talent is severely burned out. For comp: The new hires are probably getting generous TC numbers because practically no one wants to work here anymore, but as soon as you sign that letter, you are just another person on Cloudera payroll. With every round of salary and equity review, you will be made to feel grateful for a tiny raise to go with a depreciating stock grant, because as a Clouderan this is how you should be contributing to profitability goals. Culture, Politics, Respect: If you’re good at playing the political game, stop reading cause you’ll thrive here. It’s not a meritocracy and working 12 hours per day will make you a quick target for more work. This is a place where titles DO matter. You don’t see many people under 35 here and that’s not a coincidence.
