Thank you for your fabulous five ⭐review! We're so pleased that you enjoyed your time with us. We're really proud of our hybrid working policy, and where it works for the business and the individual we're keen for colleagues to work they way they want. We believe that it's the work you do, not where you work from that's important.

Pros

The pay is decent and staff discount.

Cons

The promised 15-minute paid break doesn’t actually happen, and discussing it feels taboo. Ironically, the Co-op’s values don’t extend to staff. There's a lack of diversity; the store is mainly run by Gullible international students or those on post-study work visas. Managers prefer hiring these workers because they tend to ask fewer questions and can be pushed for maximum output in minimum hours. Favoritism is also a significant issue. Let’s strive for a fairer workplace and a better world. Thanks.

At Co-op we believe in fairness and equity, and this is reflected in our recruitment processes. We select candidates for interview based on assessment scores. Our assessments are unbiased and performance is measured on situational judgement and job-relevant criteria. Our hiring managers are unable to access any information about protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010, including race or religion. It is because we see strength in diversity that our store managers endeavour to recruit teams that represent the communities that they serve. Presently, there are no employee referral schemes in operation in our stores and as such, hiring managers do not receive any financial incentive from informal referrals to the careers site. However, you've made some very serious allegations and we intend to investigate this. We would appreciate if you could provide further information to aid us in this investigation. Please complete the details on the former colleague contact form here: https://colleagues.coop.co.uk/contact Thank you for your raising your concerns and we look forward to hearing from you.
