Pros

Working as an architectural photographer for CoStar Group, specifically for Homes.com, certainly has its perks. The six-figure salary and benefits package are competitive and initially seemed promising. These financial incentives can be attractive, especially for photographers looking to make a stable income in an otherwise freelance-heavy field.

Cons

However, the position comes with a long list of challenges that overshadow the benefits. Micro-management is pervasive, leaving little room for creative freedom or flexibility. The excessive workload and constant deadline pressure create a stressful and unsustainable work environment. A particularly troubling aspect is the dehumanizing weekly point system, which prioritizes quantity over quality, making it difficult to feel valued as a professional. The job often involves taking photos in public spaces—parks, businesses, and restaurants—as well as schools, which frequently results in uncomfortable confrontations with law enforcement, school staff, and even parents who are concerned about privacy, especially when minors are involved. Photographing private homes without explicit permission also leads to tense encounters with angry neighbors demanding explanations, adding to the emotional and mental strain of the job. Assignments lack consistency, both in terms of skill requirements and quality assurance standards, making it challenging to meet expectations. The lack of time off, including no weekends, and toxic leadership further contribute to burnout. Despite the seemingly high salary, the actual hourly rate becomes disappointingly low considering the grueling hours required to meet deadlines.

Pros

Health insurance, and the bare minimum they’re able to get away with to make it seem like you’re supported.

Cons

Toxic work environment Never ending work load with constantly changing production measurements Draconian measures to keep staff scared and working out of fear. Salaries not meeting the cost of living standards for the markets their in. Gross negligence at the leadership level. Google the company and see about the mass exodus last year. This occurred due to the above practices and it’s only gotten worse from there. What’s actively occurring is a massive expansion of responsibilities with no salary adjustments whatsoever. What you read is true, this is what an American monopoly looks like and unless you are at the top you are not heard, seen or appreciated.

Pros

Decent pay and healthcare benefits

Cons

I would rather live in North Korea than work here. Leadership sucks, micro management at its finest, terrible company culture, and a great place to get covid. If you want to feel overwhelmed, overworked, not appreciated, and abused then step right on up and apply because Costar is the right place for you.
