Pros

The Pros: Beautiful place to work, great co-workers, descent compensation and benefits, great holiday party, and simple 40 hour work week.

Cons

The best way to describe CoStar is an unstable pyramid of fear; the further you go down the chain of command, the more fear is used as a tool to "motivate." The fear is instituted by a complex system of metrics that incentivizes employees to favor the quantity rather than the quality of the data they are putting into the database. It's simple, those who efficiently "cut corners" in quality succeed and are rewarded the most, while those who pride themselves in providing quality data usually never receive a bonus and are always in fear of getting fired for not meeting the metrics. It's obvious that the metrics system is flawed and unreasonable when the details with regards to it are kept secret during the interview process and even throughout training. In the 6 months I was employed at CoStar I had 3 different managers due to the high turnover rate, therefore I left because I realized that CoStar was a place for survival, not growth and promotion.

Pros

In my experience great people at all levels of the organization. A relatively brilliant CEO in the space.

Cons

Very limited or extremely difficult to acchieve career growth. Responsibilities are piled on, but promotions or raises never there to compensate for it. Serious lack of resources in many areas of the organization.

Pros

Good benefits and somewhat decent pay. Nice building to work in. For those out of school there are a lot of young employees.

Cons

Where do I begin? There is no way to simply describe the cons of working at CoStar unless you have already been through hell. Imagine you are trying to climb a muddy, steep hill, in the pouring rain carrying ten dishes spinning on sticks... If one of those plates fall you are doing an awful job, if two fall you are on an action plan and when you make it up the hill and someone bumps into you knocking another one of those spinning plates off its stick you are fired. If you are able to lie, enter in false information to the database, and BS you're way through the day you might succeed at keeping those plates intact. If that doesn't paint a clear picture the job is basically a mix of telemarketing and seeming like a debt collector to whoever you call. The company is all about quantity over quality even as they say they are trying to change for the better.
