Pros

You will work on interesting projects and have a big impact on the final products. Most of the people in the organization are very passionate about the work. If you came from Microsoft, you will probably do very well here and the idiosyncrasies will be familiar, but not as pronounced. Compensation is okay for a non-profit. Company will do well because its product is free and it's funded by big tech, so job security is great. Flexible hours.

Cons

As a young organization, they hired people who didn't know what they were doing. You'll note that there are a lot of "growth" opportunities in that many people are not qualified for the work that they are asked to to, to the point that management is not aware what qualifications are necessary for some jobs. Recently, the organization lost most of their experienced education staff, who had become disillusioned with management and the tech-centric culture. If you have experience in education or a non-profit, you will probably be happier somewhere else, where equity is valued more highly and the management is aware of what goes into quality educational projects. This organization has the same problems that a lot of tech companies have with valuing and recognizing the contributions of women and people of color.

Pros

I love working at Code.org. Code.org has a great mission and it's incredible how much progress we've made towards our goal of giving more students the opportunity to learn CS. Some of my favorite things about working here: - The culture here is very collaborative. Everyone is always very willing to help out one another. It also helps that we're all working towards the same mission. - Because we are a small product/engineering team, everyone has a lot more scope than they generally would in a bigger company. - There isn't a ton of process, which lets us complete our work more efficiently. - Code.org has a pretty flexible work from home policy and offers good work/life balance. - We actually get opportunities to meet/interact with our users, through classroom visits, online forums, and calls. - Our management is great and is very open to feedback.

Cons

Being a non-profit, Code.org doesn't offer all the same benefits and perks you may find at a larger company like Microsoft, Facebook, etc. But the pay is still very competitive.

Pros

Great mission, small team, lots of autonomy, and smart people. All the software is open source, the user base is pretty gigantic, and being a non-profit, it's super easy to ask outside organizations/people to volunteer their time and resources to help you out.

Cons

As a non-profit, it's harder to justify the sort of perks people have come to expect in for-profit tech companies, though I'd say things are still pretty darn nice. Just don't expect anyone to do your laundry for you, buy you lunch, or give you crazy stock bonuses.
