Pros

Multi-state level company allows you to use the expertise of teams all over the country for different construction disciplines. Lot's of different teams under one roof makes project coordination much simpler. If you need to talk to structural you just walk across the office. Mechanical team is highly experienced and helpful so if you ever need help they are great.

Cons

I wasn't much of a fan of their budget management system. You spend a large amount of time on it, however the benefit is that you are always aware of how much more time you have to finish a project.

Our multidiscipline approach is a significant value proposition to our clients as they can hire all of their engineering services under one contract. We don't ever force that on our clients, but we hope that they see the benefit. Regarding our budget management/billing system, we are in the midst of an upgrade to that system, which will be a significant improvement. Thanks for the feedback. Dave Ruff - CEO

Pros

Good culture, pay is okay. They hire high quality people. Work hard, play hard lifestyle. A lot of opportunity to travel. For a young engineer pay starts low, but ramps up.

Cons

Turn over rate. Burn out. Undervaluing young engineers. Constantly understaffed. Structure of progression is convoluted. Field work is heavy and required. Project managers and Principal Engineers have to work long shifts in the field just like the technicians. This shoots down the outlook a young engineer might have to work hard in the field early in their career for the hopes of a more office based job later on.

We are committed to hiring quality people to protect the culture. And in this current employment climate, finding people is a challenge. This is especially true in Corrosion. Our commitment to quality deliverables is part of the reason that our senior staff spend time in the field. Training and mentoring happen in the field where the work is being done. Still, your feedback about finding more talent, clarifying the progression path, and creating balance is noteworthy. Recruit your friends! Dave Ruff - CEO

Pros

Coffman has a welcoming, family feel. Management is approachable. I feel that I have opportunities to move up in the company and work on many different types of projects. There is training available for business development and management. Each office has an entrepreneurial approach which gives more freedom on a local level. The CEO genuinely cares about people.

Cons

Currently, I cannot think of any.

Thanks for the shout out! I want people's careers to thrive at Coffman. Life is too short for work to suck. Ideally, we are enjoying each other, and enjoying the engineering that we perform. We are doing some really cool things for the built environment, and for the earth's environment. And keeping people safe. Pretty awesome. Really glad you are on our team. All the best.
