Pros

Well established 35 years, 8 office locations, Comp Time policy, interesting private and public projects, minimal overhead with all managers working on projects, and Coffman has a reputation of delivering what has been promised.

Cons

Medical Insurance costs are going up, but this might be true of most every company.

I am grateful for your comment about our reputation of integrity. It is vitally important to us. As rising medical insurance costs are a universal problem, we are working diligently to determine which costs are in our influence of control to reduce. Through education and benefits structure we are hopeful to be a company full of the most skilled health care consumers so that we can counteract the overall trend. Managing growth without compromising culture and organizational health is a big challenge. If you see something heading the wrong direction, please, please, raise the issue. This is very important to us and we all must be adopters and protectors of what makes this a gratifying place to work. Thanks. - Dave Ruff, President

Pros

Coffman Engineers offers employees the opportunity to work on a large variety of projects: from commercial to industrial, systems to controls, there's always an opportunity to work with something different. Among the more experienced engineers, there is a wealth of knowledge that is always available to the younger engineers. If you're willing to learn new things and take (calculated) risks, the growth potential at Coffman seems to be unlimited. The culture at Coffman is unmatched; from Pub nights to ping pong tournaments, there's always fun to be had. The employees are cohesive, and most have sold-out on the idea that when one of us succeeds, it's a victory for the whole team. Coffman also pays it's employees overtime, which is very rare for a firm of its size. Management is always flexible with vacations and family commitments, as they seem to truly care about their employees' well-being.

Cons

The medical benefits are on the expensive side; the insurance itself is geared more toward preventative care (i.e. high deductible but free annual exams, etc.).

Thank you for so clearly identifying a couple of the core strengths of Coffman Engineers... diversity and empowerment. Diversity in geography, in market sectors, in service offerings, and in personnel, has created a solid foundation for success through the various ups and downs of business cycles. Empowerment is an overused word now days, but inside of Coffman we have a firmly established Culture of Champions. If you have an idea you are passionate about and the aptitude to make a go of it, management will support you. Supporting new ideas builds on our diversity. I'm glad you are having an enjoyable experience at Coffman. Thanks. - Dave Ruff, President

Pros

My initial attraction was to find a great engineering firm that didn't require a commute to downtown LA. What i found was an excellent group of people to work with, with interesting projects, who pay competitive salaries and provide excellent benefits. The leadership is very smart and has a lot of integrity. Great company!

Cons

Honestly, none big enough to mention. I'm very happy.

This is great! Not everyday at work can be blue skies, but generally shouldn't our jobs add to our lives instead of detract from them? We spend about 1/3 of our awake hours at work. This is such a large portion that if it is generally negative, the other 2/3 gets dragged down with it, which in turn makes the job even more miserable. Conversely, if work is going well, we have a better chance of success in our personal lives, which results in better work performance. Let's keep making this a great place to work and thus making lives better. - Dave Ruff, President
