Pros

Colliers is a great place to work if you’re ambitious and work hard to carve out your own career path. There are opportunities for people who go above and beyond their job description, but you can’t just work hard, you have to play a lot of politics too. Good benefits plan, RRSP matching, vacation time and competitive pay. Opportunities to travel quite a bit in some roles. Intern and new sales staff programs are quite comprehensive. Great training opportunities and access to the tools required to do your job. I’ve never had to worry about the cost of a quality computer or access to software programs. I’ve also attended several professional conferences while working at Colliers. Executive leaders are actively improving their respective fields so things rarely feel stagnant. There’s always something big in the works.

Cons

There’s a real lack of diversity in some roles in the company that I believe Colliers is attempting to change, but progress is slow. Its hard to understand why it’s taken so long to make so little progress on this front. Hours can be very long and stressful. The company is continually introducing new programs, technologies and initiatives but doesn’t always staff those projects with the manpower needed to see things done right (and to avoid burning out their staff). It’s a competitive industry inside and out. Not all do well in that environment, but some thrive in it. Career paths are undefined and frustrate a lot of people. Management “Check-ins” vs traditional performance reviews are a nice idea, but it often leads to little to no regular feedback and kind of lets managers of the hook when discussing career development. Unprofessional behaviour isn’t always addressed if there are top earners involved. Colliers is behind the times when it comes to remote and flexible work, and needs to shake its old-fashioned, conservative views on the workplace if it’s going to attract younger employees. An expensive office with a view doesn’t necessarily make for a modern environment.

Pros

Vacation, Holidays, and PTO days given are above the norm.

Cons

You are just a number and all they are interested in is receiving there mgmt fees from the clients. Upper mgmt could care less about the clients needs or savings. third party mgmt, this is what you get. It’s also all about politics and The Who’s who or better yet who you kiss up to. You are thrown into a mess and receive no ones support.
