Unless you are bringing in the $$$ for the company, you are not to rock the boat. HR is useless and is only following orders from top managers rather than following protocol. They are not to be trusted. Would not be surprised if there are several law suits against them for unfair dismissals. Ethics at this company is just non existent with almost all managers. A lot of fake and superficial staff. You are expected to put in extra hours, but don't expect to be compensated for it. Very stingy with resources and would rather see staff stay late than to outsource or hire more people and value their staff.
