Pros

Good pay. Pretty neat place to work. Nice facility. Good people to work with. ...... .. ..... ... ... ...

Cons

Management is terrible. Constantly changing managers. Tons of hours, no enough time at home. Everyone is overworked or laid off.

Thanks for sharing your experience after your internship. We greatly value the fresh, outside perspective our interns can contribute, and are glad you had an overall positive experience! CMCO is currently working on ways to improve the leadership skills of management so they can lead our associates effectively, efficiently, and with the highest levels of respect.

Pros

Very dedicated middle managers, work ridiculous hours

Cons

I never understood how Upper Mgt. could not understand why so many salaried people leave. In my division alone we lost at least 25 salaried people in 5 yrs. Most of them were run off. If you want to figure out the main reason, look at the directors and how horrible they treat middle managers

We appreciate your thoughts and thank you for your years of service while at Columbus McKinnon. We want employees and managers alike to feel they have the ability to speak up, especially when it comes to people being treated with respect in the workplace. We need candid open feedback in order to be able to make improvements. There are several ways to provide this, if you are not comfortable talking to your own manager, you can speak with HR, or with someone in leadership in another part of the organization, or use our Ethics Point Hotline which is run by a third party.

Disappointment and Misalignement

Business Outlook

Pros

Growing company through acquisitions as well as a solid product portfolio. The rank and file is made up of exceptionally high quality people with high caliber traits that include positive attitudes, work ethics, family values and sound morals.

Cons

Leadership is misaligned and dysfunctional and on most days at war with each other over gaining greater control and scope of authority. Leadership struggles with blaming each other for failures and objective misses instead of a unified effort to achieve more as reflected in the stock value performance compared to what it should be. Sales and service leadership are beyond their capacities to lead and direct an expanding and more diversified portfolio mix. This is evident with the string of successive misses on sales targets and goals feeding further into the leadership division between the sales and ops ongoing dysfunctionalities. Lower and Mid-Level management are viewed as disposal and none value added resources and usually fall victim to the upper leadership power and control struggles. Not a good career move to join CMCO.
