Human resources department is frequently unhelpful. As an instructor, you may be asked to teach at far-away off-campus locations. No guarantee of employment beyond the original 3 year contract.

I've been here for nearly 24 years. The College truly cares about its students and its employees. Throughout the past year and a half, our guiding principles have included flexibility and compassion, both for students and employees -- without compromising our educational mission.

Cons

As with any public institution, pay tends to be lower than similar positions in the corporate world. However, the educational mission makes it worthwhile.

Pros

Truly exceptional students, general sense of collegiality between staff and wanting to help students succeed. Pay is good for higher ed in the area, awesome tuition benefits. Campus is very walkable and convenient to downtown. Parking is free for staff!

Cons

Some really toxic dynamics in upper management that trickle down to entry-level staff. If you go to HR with a problem, they will gossip about it or try to hush it up, so you're on your own if you have the misfortune of being caught in the middle of one of these power struggles.
