Pros
Excellent coworkers and advancement opportunities. I have worked part-time as a utility personal banker for over 3 years while I get my accounting degree at Mizzou. Commerce has always been flexible with my school and personal schedule which lets me keep a good work-life balance. I've always felt like they care about me as an employee and as a person. Also, even though I am going into public accounting after graduation, Commerce invested the time and training to upskill me into being able to source loans, open accounts, and even act as a supervisor.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Commerce paid us an extra 20% in hazard pay. Additionally, in an effort to social distance and hedge against a whole branch getting sick, they split the retail staff into two teams. Each week, the teams alternated between working on site and being "on-call" at home. We were paid normally for the week at home and received the 20% premium when working on site. I was blown away by Commerce's generosity and figured writing a nice Glassdoor review is the least I can do.
Cons
You may see some turnover of coworkers you're close with as they graduate or pursue other opportunities. Although, relative to most banks, Commerce is able to limit their turnover by paying efficiency wages.
