Pros

Nurses take care of each other because a lot of us have worked on the same unit for many years. Good team of providers. Good health insurance, especially through the DNP program. Attendance policy is more forgiving than UNMC.

Cons

Some hospitalists are not good about responding to messages from nurses in a timely manner, leading to many nurses texting them on their personal phone. Lack of CNAs on Med/Surg, lack of effective coaching on CNAs that perform poorly or sit on their personal phones. Unrealistic standards aka management favoring “customer service” over medical care.

Pros

Building technical knowledge. I feel needed to the unit and patients. Great way to grow in a new way as a CNA.

Cons

Healthcare in general can be draining and 12 hour shifts aren’t for everyone.

Less Pay

Pros

It is amazing place to do research as long as you have a good relation with your PI.

Cons

Pay is very less compared to NIH standards and they don't really care about giving promotions or changing Job titles even if you work for more than 5 years.
