Cons

Compass' shift in it's treatment of employees during the last 4 years could cause whiplash. 4 years ago, employee benefits were 100% covered by the company, education stipends were provided for personal growth, and gym/therapy membership stipends were available to take care of employees mental and physical health. Employees are now responsible for covering a notable portion of their benefits and all mentioned stipends have been removed. In 2023, employees underwent 3 rounds of layoffs and in town-hall meetings discussing this they were told if they didn't agree with this they could find employment elsewhere. This is called soft/quiet firing and is a pretty unethical business practice commonly used to avoid having to pay severance. Alongside those layoffs, Compass decided to issue a salary freeze and withhold raises for employees that stayed with the company and help it stabilize. Recognition of this was not mentioned or reflected in the next active review cycle. Salary adjustments issued are seen as final decisions and requested changes are swiftly denied. Those points aside, the day to day workload is unsustainable and the work/life balance is non-existent. Skipping lunch to keep up with assigned tasks happens often. Burnout is an experience shared by most. And flagging this as a concern will likely result in inaction, laugher, or an offer to use a day of sick time to recover. In regard to internal career opportunities, get comfortable in the position you are in because there are little to no opportunities for growth. Most teams have 5-10 staff under a manager with each of those people vying for their managers position that is currently occupied. Even though scope and assignments increase constantly, expanding teams to accommodate workloads is not a common occurrence. You are not a person when you work at Compass. You are a cog in their machine to churn out work and allow higher levels a larger salary. You, your needs, or your well-being do not feel cared for. If you are considering working for Compass, I beg you take these words to heart: Run. Run as far away from this place as humanly possible.
