Pros
Caring for dying patients can be very fulfilling
Cons
Profit before patient care. There is a large emphasis on building up the titles, egos, and bonuses of the top executives, and boosting profit for the investors, versus supporting and empowering the local care teams. If you want to be forced into a care model that emphasizes profit and undervalues colleagues and local leaders, this is the place for you. If you want to provide, and put your name on, quality end of life care, I would suggest finding an organization that puts patients and their care team members first. If you have a heart for hospice, do your research on case loads and quality measures for hospice providers, as there are organizations out there that stay committed to case loads that give care team members the time to holistically focus on the dying person and grieving family. Compassus is BIG BUSINESS, setting their sights on growing as fast and as large as they can, while the patients and families served are getting a slimmed down version of what care for a dying person should be. Those who answer the call to work in hospice deserve a better experience than what Compassus is willing to offer employees.
