Pros

I worked for Conde Nast South Africa. The very best thing about this company is the amazing people who dedicate their talents to making it shine. This is especially because the hierarchy is generally flat – i.e. only the editor is answered to and almost every one else (barring very junior interns) are treated as equals. It also has a wonderful open door policy that works very well. The work is also challenging and enjoyable. I learnt a huge amount in my time here. Benefits like medical aid and leave were also very good whilst I worked here.

Cons

The company has no proper HR practises. Job descriptions, performance reviews and annual increases are non existent. Because of this, pay is dismal (especially considering the level of talent the company employs), employees are not able to progress and overall morale eventually drops in everyone employed there. The top management is also seen to be spending money frivolously (on unnecessary personal security and social functions), while employees are told there is no budget for even basic annual increases.
