Pros

Reputation is amazing. Lots of funding sources and lots of inter-department collaboration. It's also a beautiful town and spectacular campus.

Cons

Ridiculously long hours for not too much pay. The quality of work and life depends a lot on who your supervisor is.

Pros

Cornell University provides excellent benefits to faculty and staff, including good retirement plan options and pretty decent health insurance coverage. Salaries are good (especially given the cost of living in the area).

Cons

Ithaca is in the middle of nowhere. If you place any value of having access to good shopping and an active dating scene, Ithaca is not the place for you. However, it is a good city for raising a family.

Pros

Great benefits, wonderful colleagues, excellent town in which to rear children

Cons

It's a company town, and the compensation reflects that fact
