Not the company that was once championed by the Houghton family.

Pros

Okay salary with health and retirement benefits, pension and goalsharing bonus for employees only. Corning Perks is useless, but nice to know that it is available. Knowledgeable scientist, engineers and technicians.

Cons

Poor leadership, and smug office culture. No longer maintains its family values as an American company as they consider themselves a global company. Hire and layoffs are dependent on quarterly results. 2 rounds of layoffs in 2 years! So there was always fear of losing ones job. Once you are out it is very difficult to get back in unless you are applying through contract resources. As a contractor this means the company does not have to pay into pension, retirement or benefits. You become a 2nd class employee, a very unfair business practice IMHO. No REAL employee development, the tools are there but in my experience it was sink or swim.

Pros

Good pay, longstanding stable company with ongoing product innovations

Cons

IT management is currently engaged in shifting many support and operational services to off-shore managed services, with insufficient attention to the impact this is having on staff morale and anxiety levels.
