Pros

There are always new and interesting developments going on, whether I am on the project or not. This place doesn't stand still.

Cons

Sometimes the culture of "politeness" prevents people from doing the right thing. The individual contributor is not really valued as much as the management track so we have people supervising who aren't good supervisors but have other great skillsets; apparently having them be supervisors is the only way to justify their pay grade.

Pros

Some people are really nice working with, they can be great friends in your life,

Cons

Slow on everything, waste too much time and resources on many useless projects and products. Too much politics, promotion based on personal relationship. What a shame to see many bright young men are being wasted at Corning. Some mid level managers don't know what they should know, or just pretend they know, lack of vision, cronyism is not unusual. Poor location, nothing to do but work, long frigid winter, high utilities cost, high property tax, very limited houses on market, difficult to sell if you move, it is an isolated real estate market. Difficult to attract top talents, will lose ground on getting quality workers as boomers retiring. Long history is good, but it can be a burden. Look how Kodak busted...

Pros

Corning does things right. They don't jump into things without substantially weighing the pros and cons, it's a great place to learn the right way to go about product development and customer satisfaction.

Cons

Different departments are quite silo'd and moving from one department into another feels like switching employers altogether. This requires substantial internal networking.
