Pros

Lots of perks such as full size samples of new beauty products for free, the idea being you'll get to try the product and speak to its merits to customers when selling. Can be a great environment to work in with guaranteed steady hours. However, this highly depends on your co-workers, store manager and regional manager. If you are interested in beauty products, you'll get training and become highly familiar with all the professional beauty products and tools out there. Store is only open to licensed cosmetologists, so you're not working with the general public.

Cons

Not much room for growth. In my experience, when a Store Manager position opened up, they opted to hire someone outside the company when they had a dedicated Assistant Manager who had worked there for 8 years and done an excellent job. The new Manager made no effort to even pretend to care about her duties, and being that the stores are small and tend to have a 3-9 person staff, all her responsibilities fell on our shoulders for half the pay. Pay is minimal - barely above minimum wage (at least when I was employed there). Weekends are required, so you can except to be working every weekend, unless you are the Store Manager who is only required to work one Saturday per month.

Pros

Product knowledge and samples on occasion, the stores aren’t open super late so you aren’t at work all night. Meeting other stylists can help you network if you’re another stylist employed there. In my store, I had a great staff. That kept me there for the most part. Good if you’re in school! It’s a nice stepping stone.

Cons

VERY uncompetitive wages and even less room for growth. If you’re a licensed stylist, they want you, but do not want to pay for it. At the same time, they SHOULD have people in the industry working there, since it caters to licensed pros. Another thing that bothered many employees was a lack of other employees, especially in smaller stores. If you get sick or have an emergency, there is no one to replace you. And god forbid you want to take time off. Not possible.

Pros

Good hours. Close to a 9 to 5, if full time.

Cons

Low pay, can’t move up, and understaffed.
