Pros

Benefits...most importantly pension plan. That is it. There is no other compelling reason to stay.

Cons

Leadership decision making with horrific impacts on employees, clients and partners. Every employee is a number, period.

Formerly great company convulsing towards self destruction

Pros

Designed 20 years ago to be an East Coast Startup for Grownups, with smart people, nice culture and good benefits (including a pension).

Cons

Growth through absorption of diverse companies has led to inimical factions that cannot be integrated into a federated business model (e.g. Dealertrack's culture of heavy handed direction and compliance orientation fits poorly with units like Autotrader). Wholesale ouster of long time CTO and all levels of technical leadership creating tactical rather than strategic focus for most teams. Consolidation of all power in Vermont with Dealer.com execs marginalizing other offices, including corporate headquarters in Atlanta, to obsolescence. End of pension system and cycles of layoffs make this an environment for new grads rather than experienced professionals.

Pros

The health insurance is really good. 401k with match after 1 year. Used to have a good pension, but not anymore.

Cons

Cox is lagging behind others in the industry in terms of technology and innovation. There is still a good ol boy type of feel and LOTS of favoritism among senior leaders and execs. Even if you're doing a great job and have excellent reviews, if you're not sucking up to the right execs, none of it matters. Politics are rampant across the organization. Reorgs constantly, I'm talking multiple reorgs within a year. People are shifted around to new teams and new management all the time. I've had multiple managers and a change in job title in a matter of months. Change just for the sake of change doesn't help anybody. Kelley Blue Book used to be great until Cox acquired it and it's unfortunately created a toxic environment and caused totally ridiculous MIND BOGGLING layoffs of some really great employees. Why keep the bloat and get rid of some high performing employees? Makes no sense and has caused morale to completely decline. Salary depends on which division and which department you're in. There is a HUGE discrepancy in salaries for some people in certain positions. Overall the pay is not very competitive if you're in CA. If you're in other locations, it may be pretty good.
