Consider Yourself Warned!

Pros

*Country music playing in the restaurant. *Decent salary compared to the industry average. *Decent benefits overall even though medical was really expensive. *Guests are pretty amazing.

Cons

*Be prepared for politics; if you're not part of the "in" crowd then you will have a tough time even if you perform well. *Managers mistreat each other behind closed doors all the time. *Back of the house procedures are subpar. *Staff and management are continually stressed and environment is not peaceful or smooth. *Opinions don't matter even if it makes operations better. *Expect to work extremely long hours, sometimes up to 16-18 hours if the night crew doesn't show up to clean. *Kiss all of your holidays goodbye because you'll put in more hours than are "scheduled" or you'll be retaliated against. *Don't outperform your GM or they will most likely retaliate from fear. *Divorce rates are insanely high within the company so don't take the job if you're married; or take it if you want to get divorced.

Pros

-Discount on Cracker Barrel products -Most guests are nice -No tip sharing -Opportunity to cross-train in multiple positions

Cons

-Training program is underwhelming. You will spend a couple of very short days shadowing a trainer. Not nearly enough training to learn everything you need to know. -The time you're scheduled to leave is actually the time you stop accepting tables. Depending on the day, it could be up to an hour and a half after you are scheduled to leave before you actually do. -Can be impossible to get a break. -Teamwork is virtually non-existent. -Management screams at the employees in front of each other. If you're anywhere in the back of the house, you can hear it.

Insides of Cracker Barrel

Pros

Quick turn over of tables Shift goes by pretty quick Made some good friends/co-workers Glad I am working to put myself through school with this job and NOT making it my career

Cons

No matter HOW hard you try and put forth effort it's NEVER enough Slave driving mentality on the managers part A lot of negativity from management Kitchen ALWAYS screwing up food and we as servers get punished for it when we have to split off and rering something because it wasn't cooked well enough, or the wrong thing came out and everyone is eating but that one person, so that effects the servers tip
