Pros

You get a Ford F-150 work truck and they pay for gas. You get a work phone and phone plan paid for as well. This job is mostly on-call so you get to stay at home when you are not working. You get to drive through beautiful parts of Orange County and help many different people with serious nuisance wildlife problems. Critter Control as a general company is probably a great place to work for, but the Southern California franchise has many downfalls

Cons

The Southern California branch of Critter Control is spread so thin that it can't actually be efficient. Inefficiency is noticeable in almost every method. The owner answers the phones and is an old defensive man who does not get along with technology or people. Quite a few clients are lost because of his attitude. Critter Control is by far the most expensive nuisance wildlife service around Orange County. The price to trap for 3 nights with Critter Control is $400 while some other companies are offering 14 nights of trapping for $200. The owner is fully against lowering prices or giving any discounts to anyone so very few people actually follow through after hearing the price. I was constantly told to raise my price for repairs even though it was negatively affecting my sales numbers. You don't get the same opportunity here as with other Critter Control franchises because there are no Attic Restoration Technicians or Exclusion Helpers. Literally everything you sell you have to do on your own which really eats into your time and overall discourages technicians from selling high dollar jobs. Other than the car and phone there are absolutely no benefits. No holiday pay, no vacation hours, no sick days. Although it is not required, you basically have to work 7 days a week if you want this job because when you are trapping live animals you have to check your traps daily. If a job bleeds in to the weekend, you can't do anything that weekend. When you want a vacation you can ask, but it's not necessarily going to be approved and twice I have been swindled by the owner because I asked for and was approved a 5 day vacation and he didn't pay me for 7 days on the paycheck. Although you work for salary plus commission, there is very little opportunity to make any money because if there is ever a very large job the owner will change your percentages 'on the fly' to his own benefit. I had a very difficult time working hard for this employer because I was always checking my back to make sure he wasn't playing games with my paycheck.
