Great cause -> Not such a perfect place

Pros

Some good people and certainly a great cause...who doesn't want to help kids?

Cons

Knowing the people, yeah the posting on Apr 19, 2015 is an obvious plant to buff up the ranks. Too much focus on hiring people you know....friends over culture. So the vetting process isn't as up to par as it should be and therefore bringing in folks who probably shouldn't be here. Plenty of "yes" people indeed. If you aren't a yes person, then you are on the outs. Some of the other negative reviews are pretty accurate.

Incompetent management and a lack of direction

Pros

There are a few gems in the pool of co-workers, those who have not been driven out by incompetent and, at times, abusive management.

Cons

When the last original co-founder of the privately held company retired, he brought in an Ivy League-MBA type who actually doesn't seem to have taken even a basic business management or ethics class. Ever. He has run the company into the ground with grandiose plans and no implementation ability. Lower-level people who do the work either leave out of frustration or are laid off and are replaced with ever more managers and "big idea" people. I could go on and on. The con list is long.

Pros

The company once committed to a core set of values that upheld integrity, humility, and transparency at every level. These values made Curriculum Associates a great place to work a few years ago. Leaders grounded their efforts in ensuring entry level employees felt appreciated, were treated as professionals, and had opportunities to grow their skill sets. That positivity spread and colleagues were eager to go above and beyond to support each-other and provide optimal service to educators. Curriculum Associates definitely WAS a top employer to work for in the past.

Cons

Sadly, strong managers were replaced with elitists who value status, their egos, and their own career ambitions over that of supporting their teams. The lack of authenticity and overall toxicity has seeped into the fabric of the company culture and fundamentally cracked the once solid foundation that put CA above the rest. The new management mantra seems to be “Rules for thee but none for me” and it’s followed by gaslighting, retaliation, favoritism, and a complete lack of accountability to the teams they are meant to support. The distrust between teams and management is the highest I’ve seen in my tenure.
