Pros

- The team you meet at Currys is wonderful, staff from different backgrounds and just general heartwarming people, everyone is always up for a joke and just makes the already stressful retail life much easier to handle. - The sales experience and just general experience you learn whilst there is absolutely incredible, especially if you are focused on what the customer needs and whats, always keeping in mind what they have told you to accommodate the sale for them. - Unlike most other reviews I've seen, the management team in my store is nice to the employees and does keep in mind what their needs too - plus my store manager is the nicest person I've ever met. - You keep up (have to keep up) with newest tech, additions to tech and you learn many more things which you never likely will - especially with computers, TV's and other necessary equipment

Cons

- You have targets to hit, which can be very stressful as they have been for me - you can have a general all-round happy customer, but if you do not manage to sell the extras such as the care plan then your end-of-period report may not make the managers happy, so you have to at times be slightly pushy in terms of making people spend more money to company your targets. If you are not keen on being slightly pushy, and having management unhappy if you are not managing to keep up with the insane extras which at times are not even necessary at all, then this would be the job for you.

Pros

The colleagues 30% off of phone contracts through Carphone warehouse

Cons

You're put on a part time contract because they only pay you for holiday hours that are on your part time contract, so if you are contracted for 16 hours you only get paid for 16 of those hours Often made to stay behind after work WITHOUT pay because the store isn't looking good enough Such a massive focus on SQ they ignore what the customers needs and wants are, and I'm forced into doing so as well, when I actually care about nothing but the customer. You're never going to gain any management roles UNLESS you are top on SQ and top on selling Home Broadbands, without that, you are not "management material" Long hours with only a 30 minute break, I often work 10 hour 30 minute shifts with only a 30 minute break. Nothing more. Often forced to sell things to the customer that they don't actually need or want (Gold cables, completely useless and offer nothing more than standard cables yet they charge £70-90 for them) Only 10% discount off of products Managers don't seem to care about what is best for you as an employee Being given so many tasks to do in a set time that is impossible to meet. Every sale has to be signed off with a manager, this leads to every colleague believing that the management team have no trust in their ability to sell, often leading to the customer getting angry as managers are not always available to sign off said deals or are bugging them too much. Little to no training on actual products, so you end up knowing nothing about anything you sell in the store unless you research them yourself (In your own time, they don't let you train yourself in the store) Being put on a department that I have never had any interest in being a part of, not to mention me now being made the person who RUNS that department, without ANY pay increase what so ever, even though my work load has doubled from what it normally is.

Pros

- Those who joined 5+ years ago (and have managed to stay and remain normal) are decent and good to work with and have banter

Cons

- Employee discount of 15% off handsets is poor (used to be 40%!) - Poor management - Recruitment process needs a major over-haul - Different rules apply to different individuals (depending on how poor their line managers are) - Empty promises - HR processes (i.e. team events, meetings) are for show only to tick of a box for management - Speak your mind and you will be forced out - Hot-desking (don't get me started on that one) - Working hours - depending on roles, certain teams have to stay back and work extra long hours (with no sort of compensation/reward) in return - Incentives to teams offered when it comes to 'annual feedback' in order for management and the business to get a good score - Have to justify everything you do, where you go (surprised they don't ask how many times you breathe in a working day in that place)
