An Unstable Roller Coaster

Pros

-Unlimited PTO -Some managers are flexible and supportive -Most departments allow for fully remote work

Cons

-Absolutely no stability. In my 2 years there, they had 3 major rounds of layoffs, including a recent one that saw about 1/3 of the company get laid off without notice. In-between these layoffs, they over-hired and created unnecessary positions -Falls into all the negative stereotypes about tech startups: lots of annoying buzzwords and disingenuous messaging, tons of pointless meetings, company directives that are always changing and are more distracting than they are helpful, etc. -Many managers are all talk, no action -No 401k matching

Pros

Work-life balance, decent pay, easy job.

Cons

Too many meetings throughout the day that could’ve been an email, management is terrible and greedy. All they care about is sales and taking people’s money. Constantly laying off people every year. I didn’t have a manager for an entire year and they never seemed to care about that. Overall it’s not a great place to work and they don’t care about their employees.

Such a cool concept...and that's about it.

Pros

The people (the ones before and after the lay-offs), the people there generally want to do the best job possible, and that matters.

Cons

Being a startup isn't easy. However at some point you need the leadership to say as a company- "Hey, it's time we grow up and get out of that startup phase..." Right? You can't be a startup forever, or you will just cycle through millions of dollars and qualified employees as you pivot from idea to idea, wondering where you went wrong on this buzzworthy idea while quickly thinking of the next one. Whiplash, thy name is Cybrary.
