Good for intro into GIS, bad for almost everything else
Pros
The team at Cheddar are fantastic people to work with. They are always being helpful and aiding you even if you're completely brand new to GIS and CAD. The project coordinator is highly knowledgeable and pillar to the team, they always like to bring the best potential out from you and encourages you to learn more as you go. The work you do is fairly simple, easy to learn and well structured in a way that it does not cause much stress with the work and with learning GIS. Primarily working with a CAD software but as you progress you learn to work more with QGIS, ArcMap and ArcPro.
Cons
Cyient is an Indian owned tech company with a couple offices within the UK, therefore the UK offices are more of an afterthought to Cyient. Such as the HR team is non existant, you have a minimal amount of benefits that you have to apply for but even then it will be rare you get those as HR never respond to your emails to apply for them. So essentially you don't have any benefits. It almost feels that Cyient do not want anything to do with the office and provide no incentive to boost in terms of benefits, pay or even leave allowance. The pay for the work being done is very low, following around 20-40% less pay than similar jobs. With no payrises annually. They do offer long term bonuses, with one payment every five years that equates to around £250, which is very little when compared to other company's pay bonuses. Even though a pro is mentioning the work being simple, it is also a con as it can be pretty mundane. The project manager can also be shifty, taking advantage of the lack of work experience in some people to ask stuff to be done that normally would not be ok. There is also no incentive to progress with the exception of only wanting to learn more about using the Esri products. As majority of the team members are paid the same regardless of how much responsibility they are given, whereas a team member doing 50% less work than another member is still being paid the same and they would have no intention of progressing for that reason. A lot of these cons have in turn caused a high turnover within the office, you will rarely see people stay longer than a year or two. This also puts more pressure on team members that have been there a long time as it is a long process to train a new person to carry out most of the work and if there are more fresh people then it falls on the more experienced people to do more of the work. That ultimately forces them to start looking for new jobs and this creates a snowball effect then.
