I didn’t realize when I accepted this role but Clerks are still expected to be material handlers as well…they post this role as ‘administrative’ which it is, but the work is NOT 100% administrative/office.
You MAY be pulled to the warehouse floor…How often you’re working on the floor varies by site AND by supervisor (for example: my supervisor put me on the floor as a material handler majority of my shifts, while other supervisors didn’t require their clerks to double as material handlers at all. Those clerks only went to the floor to ensure orders were ready to ship or to do research…as is the clerks job).
So you’re supervisors dictate what type of work you’ll be doing day-to-day, and can change your job duties as they see fit.
This isn’t a huge con if you are used to material handling in any capacity…but if you read the current Shipping Clerk job description (as of 2024) and are under the impression that this is mostly an administrative job, it may or may not be…it all depends on how your DIRECT supervisor feels…
