Very frustrating to work here

Pros

Leadership is very incompetent, without capability to tell good from bad, so if you are good people pleaser, and prepared to be obedient to your boss, it's a great place to work: you don't have to do your best, very relaxing if you always listen to your boss and never contribute your own ideas...

Cons

Very bad leadership, too many unqualified, dishonest directors and VPs. None of them really know how to make a successful product (guess in how many years this company hasn't rolled out really new products?). Traditional codec tech and Blue-ray are still their mainstage, but obviously blue-ray is going down. The company does not care about the development and the long term career path of its employees at all. the leadership do not really do anything meaningful, but play politics.

Pros

Meeting customers is great, they appreciate the sound quality. Poor quality mastering equipment gives the challenges for making valuable improvements.

Cons

No matter what great feats you achieve, if one or more of the high ups doesn't like you, you're treated like the cleaning staff. Extremely dishonest managers and illegal firings are the rule of law here, covered by a pay-out to sign away your rights. There was a lot of back-biting and scheming apparent and several two-faced managers you wouldn't want to share anything with.

Pros

Lots of people with great experience to learn from and tons of (utterly unrealized) potential for exciting development. Given the talen level of the staff DTS could easily have continued to be an industry leader if project management could be restructured.

Cons

The core business of DTS is audio codecs and due to the decrease of disk sales and increased online delivery the company has an ongoing identity crisis, which recently had upper management cash-out in a sell-off to Tessera/Xperi. The company itself has in the past tried to diversify into "audio solutions" with mixed success. All of this, along with a culture in which every other person is a "VP" of something and trying hard to hold on to their political status makes the atmosphere aggressive and ignorant at the same time. Over the past years there has been multiple rounds of layoffs creating a sense of doom among much of the staff.
