Pros

Free Lunches is literally the only PRO item on this company. I mean, that is besides the fact that they have some good people that work there, most of which are not happy with the place.

Cons

Management is definitely a CON of working at Darling. Honestly, if you have a job now and are considering making a career move to go to Darling, I wouldn't. I am not exaggerating when I say that most people here are unhappy. There are no work, team building events, no employee appreciation programs and it is just a STALE environment. The Vacation time is horrible, you only get 2 weeks per year, for the first 5 years you are employed there. The Information Technology department is highly under-staffed and the managers only know what they are doing, when it pertains to the Darling environment - seems like they have no experience with what a good environment (Cohesive) would be like. They lie about the small and big things, and are hypocritical. I am not disgruntled. As a matter fact, the only reason I am writing this is to hopefully Help someone or someones out there that may attempt to make a career move and might need some advice. Look through all of the Glassdoor reviews - most of them discuss bad Management. DO NOT TAKE that lightly. When you have bad managers, your life can be opposite of happy and it effects so many aspects in your personal life. Honestly, stay away.

Pros

You run the show for the most part! Good base salary and health benefits plus mileage reimbursement. iPad, iPhone, nice free work shirts, and laptop with sales force are also a plus. Always in restaurants meaning some owners give you free food.

Cons

Upper management lacks fundamental leadership skills Operations will throw you under the bus and communication is terrible Company has a bad rap with all big chain fast food restaurants that are not customers so opportunities for new business in large quantity are low/ nonexistent. You will not land big chains unless competitor screws up Customers resist signing new equipment contracts as they are one sided and carry too much risk Service side and operations are slow to react to customer issues and do not care No opportunity for growth and no rewards for big accounts high revenue accounts. You can work some serious margins in a contract and won't be compensated Company will make you file police reports since theft of their product is rampant. 5 per week is quota which could take 10 to 15 hours per week of non revenue generating work All or nothing commission strategy, meaning you need to hit a, b, and c. Aka no commission for you Leadership thinks what works in Cold Springs corporate works in CA. No market research is taken into consideration and there last project flopped and next one will too. Absolutely no differentiation from the competition and charge more than competition for grease trap cleaning which customers see no value in. Lowest price wins in the business or for purchasing cooking oil highest price wins. The containers you provide will not fit in some locations which will force you to walk from business. 401k contribution is pathetic. Just remember, this company use to own a huge market share and lost it due to is lack of service, stubbornness to pay for product, and do nothing approach when the price of the oil raised several years ago. They were not picking up the phones when customers called. It will be decades and new leadership before they are able to gain market share within So Cal again.
