Proceed with caution: strong product, but serious management risks in EMEA

Pros

Datadog has a very strong product and impressive technology, and many of the individual contributors are highly capable and committed. Compensation and benefits are competitive, and the company invests in modern offices and visible perks that create an attractive first impression.

Cons

Behind the polished employer branding, the management culture in parts of EMEA can be challenging. From the beginning, expectations are not always clearly defined and can change rapidly, making it difficult to understand how success is measured. Feedback is often informal and reactive rather than structured or constructive, and management style may lean toward micromanagement rather than trust and autonomy, very unpleasant and heavy work atmosphere. While office perks and amenities are emphasized (mostly snacks and Apple products), they sometimes feel like surface-level benefits that mask a harsher day-to-day reality. Decision-making lacks transparency, and HR involvement when concerns are raised is limited or comes very late. In this context, behaviors that could reasonably be perceived as inappropriate or harassing do not always appear to be addressed with the seriousness one would expect. More broadly, management responsibilities in some teams appear to be shaped more by prior internal exposure, informal networks, or cultural proximity than by demonstrated people-management competence, which undermines psychological safety and fairness.

Pros

1. Young and fun culture 2. Good welfare benefits 3. Free lunch 3 days a week 4. Monthly free company bonding activities 5. Good training, fully paid for New York City trip for onboarding 6. Relatively small office (only 1 floor) which makes it easy to mingle with managers/directors and people from other teams. Friendly and fun culture where everyone recognizes each other in office and easy to chitchat in pantry. 7. Increased focus on marketing in ASEAN region with expansion of marketing team and many more marketing events held in ASEAN region has helped to boost inbound lead flow and generate higher quality of opportunities. 8. Managers care about you and your well being as well as your internal brand and carrier progression (whether within or outside of Datadog), its not just a numbers game. 9. SDR team is very supportive of one another, sharing notes with each other and giving each other tips on how to do better. There is no internal fight, even for those within the same territory.

Cons

1. Salary is slightly lower than other companies of the same scale. 2. Quota was recently raised for SDR team making it more challenging to hit quotas. Not everyone is hitting every month. 3. AE team with constant inflow and outflow of AEs means SDRs have to constantly adapt to working with new people. 4. Territory expanding and structure changing, changes keep coming and have to constantly adapt. Overall I would say pros still outweigh the cons, and it is a positive environment to work in with friendly and helpful colleagues.
