Pros

Great product, cross collaboration with very smart SE's.

Cons

Arguably the worst new hire onboarding I've ever had in the tech industry. As mentioned in the headline, this is not a CS job, this is a glorified sales position, the CSM is responsible for generating pipeline, maintaining SF hygiene, running disco calls and ultimately closing deals, but with absolutely no support from management and leadership. Extremely low pay for the amount of work you are putting in, as mentioned you are wearing multiple hats and if you are not hitting quarterly quota, they are really cutthroat with firings. Everything is just vibes in this organization, management keeps giving themselves promotions while the organization is struggling with hitting KPI numbers/quarterly targets. Promotion is completely non existent at this role, so even if you are good at this position, plan to exit out of Datadog within 2-3 years because you are not getting promoted

Pros

- many learning opportunities (was my first PM role and I felt very prepared going into my next one) - high standards for writing; teaches you how to communicate concisely and effectively - office perks, despite it being very crowded at times

Cons

- sometimes can take a long time to get a decision approved given all the stakeholders involved // upper management didn't always communicate in the kindest way - underpaid for a good portion of my tenure (didn't feel like I was making a competitive salary until the very end) - once you release a feature, it's always on to the next one; there's not a lot of lot of time for reflection - very difficult / no clear path to getting a promo from L2 to senior in PM org

We’re glad to hear the role offered strong learning opportunities, especially early in your PM career, and that our writing standards helped you build skills you’ve carried forward. We also appreciate your candid feedback on decision-making timelines, leadership communication, and clarity around promotion paths. Input like this helps us better understand how these experiences are felt across the org. Wishing you continued success in your PM journey and thank you for the contributions you made during your time here.

Proceed with caution: strong product, but serious management risks in EMEA

Pros

Datadog has a very strong product and impressive technology, and many of the individual contributors are highly capable and committed. Compensation and benefits are competitive, and the company invests in modern offices and visible perks that create an attractive first impression.

Cons

Behind the polished employer branding, the management culture in parts of EMEA can be challenging. From the beginning, expectations are not always clearly defined and can change rapidly, making it difficult to understand how success is measured. Feedback is often informal and reactive rather than structured or constructive, and management style may lean toward micromanagement rather than trust and autonomy, very unpleasant and heavy work atmosphere. While office perks and amenities are emphasized (mostly snacks and Apple products), they sometimes feel like surface-level benefits that mask a harsher day-to-day reality. Decision-making lacks transparency, and HR involvement when concerns are raised is limited or comes very late. In this context, behaviors that could reasonably be perceived as inappropriate or harassing do not always appear to be addressed with the seriousness one would expect. More broadly, management responsibilities in some teams appear to be shaped more by prior internal exposure, informal networks, or cultural proximity than by demonstrated people-management competence, which undermines psychological safety and fairness.
