Pros

Dataminr is forward thinking and the employees across the organization are driven, highly intelligent and 'own it'. Every person I've had the privilege of either reporting to or working with is exceptional. Team is open to feedback, upwards or down as well. The company takes great care of the employees in many aspects. Plus. the product is smart and relevant in todays digital world.

Cons

Not really a con in my opinion, but Dataminr is growing and like any growing org, there will be changes to how things run. Coming onboard, you have to be willing to accept that this isn't your typical 9-5 same thing day in and day out career.

Pros

Decent pay and alright hours depending on what team you’re on. Catered lunch when in the office. The office is also really nice. A lot of the people are great.

Cons

DM has a long way to go in terms of race and gender equity. I’ve dealt with and witnessed friends and colleagues dealing with entitled, arrogant people on various teams against whom no action is taken. If you’re a young person of color I suggest you look elsewhere. The work environment is made out to be super progressive and cutting edge but it’s really not. Add to that the fact that you will feel like a cop when you see some of the clients we worked with… just not great for me personally.

Dataminr Response
4y
First, let me start by thanking you for your candid and open feedback. Although it’s painful, it’s important for us to know what we are doing well and where we have opportunities for improvement. I will do my best to match your openness in my response. We are not accustomed to receiving two star reviews. Our employees overwhelmingly tell us that they take pride in the mission-driven work that we do (helping the world manage risk) and the integrity of our DEI journey. Fostering an inclusive, respectful environment is at the heart of our culture and it is personally disheartening that your experience working here was neither positive nor rewarding. One of our core values and driving behaviors is to “find a better way,” meaning we work urgently, thoughtfully and are driven to constantly improve. Our DEI strategy reflects that same drive for continuous improvement. DEI is a never-ending journey, rife with complexity, sure mistakes, and hard-earned lessons. I agree with you that there is an abundance of work to be done in achieving race and gender equity in the workplace and in the world. As a leadership team, we hold ourselves accountable for enacting change and increasing representation in the workplace. It is fundamental to our mission. I respect your experience and appreciate your feedback. That said, I cannot agree with your comment, “If you’re a young person of color I suggest you look elsewhere.” Our employees are powerful drivers of progress and transformation. Their voices and ideas are heard, acted on, and truly drive innovation at Dataminr — from informing our DEI initiatives to the inclusive benefits that support employees of all backgrounds. We continue to build more opportunities into every stage of the career journey, with a particular emphasis on strengthening support systems for our colleagues from underrepresented communities. I recognize that has not been your experience and for that I’m very sorry. I welcome and encourage the opportunity to continue this conversation offline if you’d be open to it. Best, Robin Strup VP, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion rstrup@dataminr.com
