Pros

- Great colleagues who support each other - Free meal every day - Health insurance - Company outings at least once a quarter - Professional development budget

Cons

- The job is incredibly stressful: You are required to always be on with no downtime, and you see and read horrifying things - You are required to do a lot of extra work for no pay: You work eight hours, plus you are expected to attend meetings, read briefing emails and work on projects and assignments outside those hours. You definitely don't receive anything like a lunch hour, with all food consumed at desks - The hours are very unsociable: DEs work late hours, weekends and federal holidays and it's difficult to see family and friends - At lot of the people in the company feel that they have been mis-sold the job they were taking on - There's not much room for growth: Dataminr are taking on new people but almost all the positions available are for new Domain Experts - Pay: There are huge disparities between DEs and yearly pay raises are limited

Pros

- Paid lunches - Hiring standards mean co-workers are great - Professional development fund available for employees - Health insurance

Cons

- Short/no breaks, lunch eaten at desk while working - All employees scheduled to work full weekends twice a month - Non-existent work/life balance - Shift changes every month - Have to deal with violent and graphic content without any work-led support - Extra responsibilities with no extra pay; attending meetings, must do extra projects sometimes outside of office hours, must read frequent work e-mails outside of work. - Pay disparity between employees in the same role - Employees are asked to write positive Glassdoor reviews during induction before they even know the role. - No progression, management seems reluctant to offer promotion opportunities preferring to hire from outside

Pros

Many passionate employees across the various timezones and function areas. Reasonable benefits (health insurance, WFH options)

Cons

Huge amount of micromanagement. Working across function areas although is theoretically supported, micromanagement means you must go through layers of bureaucracy instead of just reaching out. Senior management is so incredibly out of touch, with constant poor strategic decisions, layoffs, uncertainty. Risk taking is not encouraged, and if anything we were warned to be conscious of those more senior when suggesting ideas. Career opportunities are so poor here, once you come in at a certain level it will take a few years to get to the next level even if you are immediately demonstrating you are performing at least at that level. Pay increases were close to nothing even when inflation is at its highest in years. Real salary effectively went down over years.
